Discrit Six

Today I went to the district six museum and met a wonderful man named Abu Brown. District six was an area in Cape Town where over 60,000 residence were removed because of the apartheid regime. Abu was one of them. He was so excited about my project and the possibility that my great grandfather may have lived there or somewhere similar. A place where so many nationalities and cultures combined and created beautifully together before the destruction of a home to so many. The complexities and intricacy of colour here is deep and old, and I’m only just starting to understand the very surface of it. Abu said he saw the face of the familiar in my family, he even had a teacher who had the same last name as my great grandfather.... now wouldn’t that be weird (he also asked if my mum was single)
